Big Fish!!

Yeah, I know it's been awhile. I have good reasons though. The Monday following the end of my school year (which went very well) I had a couple wisdom teeth pulled and found it to be quite painful so I was busy icing my face till Friday when I went to my parents camp in ignace with the kids (kev stayed home to help work on his parents house) The first day we were there (Saturday) it was opening day for fishing pickerel. I don't know if you know that I come from a family of fishing fanatics and I am one as well. The Saturday was miserable and even though we are fanatics we aren't crazy. Sunday was a little nicer for fishing so we packed up the boats and the kids and lunches etc. and headed out to the big lake. We were really struggling to get any fish, Caleb was the only one catching pickerel. I got a few pike but in our family they are considered a nuisance, though the way they fight makes it fun to catch them, but we throw them back. I was sitting there getting annoyed that I wasn't catching any pickerel (mainly because I wanted it for supper) when suddenly something tugged on my line. Then the tug turned into my rod bending entirely and was being pulled into the water. I knew I was in for a great fight with a large northern. He kept pulling my rod around and it was all I could do just to hold on to the rod. I was excited thinking that this is probably going to be the biggest pike I have ever caught. My mom got the net ready as I struggled to get this monster of a fish to come to the surface. We were debating if we should even net it since neither of us would want to take the hook out of it's mouth and my dad's boat was a 100 yards away. I just figured we could get it up to the surface and then bring it over to him to take off the hook. Finally, I began to win the battle with the monster pike and it began to appear. When I first saw it's sillouette I was so excited because it was for sure the biggest pike I have ever caught. I reeled up some more and my mother and I got a real good look for the first time only to see that this was indeed not a pike, but a pickerel. We both knew that we just had to get this beauty into the net somehow (Though the net is smaller than the fish) My mom reached under with the net and just as she was getting it under the fish, the fish realized what was happening and got one last burst of energy and bolted with all it had left and snapped my line and is now gone forever (sniff, sniff). I have been told my some that if the fish doesn't make it into the boat than it doesn't count. I have been losing sleep over this lost great opportunity. My mom and I believe that it was at least 15 pounds and I think we are under exaggerating. We both agreed that we have never even seen a pickerel that big even mounted. But unfortunately no one believes me cause it does sound like a fishing tale, but it is true, you can ask my mommy;)

It's Caleb's 8th birthday today. I can't believe he is already 8. We had his party last night at the church and had a turn out of 22 kids. It was fun. Thanks to Dean, Juanita, Josh and my mom for helping out. This is a slide show that I made for Caleb. The kids thought it was hilarious and wouldn't stop laughing. Today is also my last day of school, my last exam is today.
